OUR HISTORY

The Social Service Fund was established in 1955 upon receiving donations from the public. We are Hong Kong’s first university student-led-and-managed fund to be used on social service. The Fund is raised from the members of the Hong Kong society, and will be used for the good and benefits of the underprivileged in the city.

The Fund until 2013 has been supporting the operation of various NGOs and some of their programmes. Upon receiving a maximum of nearly 100 proposals each year, our Selection Board, comprising of Registered Social Workers, professors and university students, would choose around 10 projects with the most social impacts. Fund subvention of HK$100,000 would be given each year, which was appealing and won applause in the Social Welfare sector.

Upon reform, the Fund will since 2018 continue to serve Hong Kong’s needy by organizing projects that make the good use of academic knowledge of students from different disciplines.
